Patagonia Brooklyn celebrates World Climbing Weekend with four amazing New York climbing groups who can meet and greet you. Interactions with tabling groups and light refreshments will be available from 12pm-5pm, and a film screening of "Ascend" will take place at 7pm.
Ascend Summary: Mina Bakhshi, Haniya Tavasoli and Rabia Hussain had a fair amount of autonomy for women in Afghanistan, able to pursue their education, go to work and explore hobbies and interests. Joining Ascend, a nonprofit organization teaching leadership and rock climbing to women, gave them the chance to test their personal and cultural limits and explore the mountains of their home country. But when the Taliban took over in August 2021, Ascend became their one chance to escape a regime that would restrict their freedoms and future.
We look forward to seeing you there!
ParaCliffHangers is a nonprofit organization that fosters community, adventure, strength, and equity through adaptive rock climbing. Our programming includes recurring indoor meet-ups, outdoor adventures, and competition experience. We build communities where disability is not a barrier to climbing.
The Gunks Climbers Coalition is dedicated to creating and protecting sustainable and inclusive opportunities for responsible climbing and land stewardship along the Shawangunk Ridge and surrounding areas. We pursue these ideals and the interests of our membership through engagement with local land managers, promotion of continual environmental and recreational education, and cooperation with allied organizations across broader communities.
